It has been a busy December…

28th December 2022

With the increase in the cost of living, the cold snap and Christmas, many people are struggling to buy food and heat their home.  We therefore saw a sharp increase in referrals for food parcels in December this year, and a greater proportion of the referrals were for families.  We give everyone referred in December a Christmas Hamper as well as the normal food parcel, so we were extra busy, as we had two different types of parcel to pack and give out.  There are lots of Christmas goodies in the Christmas Hampers, and it is lovely to watch people’s face light up when they see the contents.  We all like to indulge a bit at Christmas!

But this is only possible firstly through the hard work of the volunteers at the Foodbank, who work on additional days to pack the Christmas Hampers, and the volunteers at the sessions when we give out food parcels, which were pretty hectic.  Secondly, we would have nothing to pack if it were not for the generosity of the local community.  So many people have given us food, or a financial donation, and we are very grateful to you all.  Others have given their time – carol singing, knitting and selling children’s toys, organising raffles and Christmas fayres and many other activities to raise money, which they have kindly donated to the Abergavenny Foodbank.

A huge thank you to you all.

Wishing you a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.
