Thank you so much to all the churches, schools and other community groups and organisations that have held Harvest Festival collections, both food and money, and donated them to the Abergavenny Foodbank. Everyone has been so incredibly generous this year. We have had well over 2 tonnes of food from Harvest collections. That is more food than we had in our storerooms at the end of September. Now we have managed to completely fill all our shelves and box and put away some tins with longer “best before” dates.
So far we have not seen a big increase in referrals this autumn, which has surprised us. But it has not been very cold yet and the cost of living payments are helping. However, Christmas can put additional pressure on household budgets, and so we think we will be busy in December and then on into the New Year. With the huge amount of food that came in for Harvest, we are well stocked up. We are also in a good position financially as we have a healthy bank balance – many people have been very generous and given financial donations. The support we receive from the Abergavenny Community is really humbling.
