A few weeks ago, we were starting to run short of bags at the Foodbank. We asked on social media for people to let us have their excess bags, in good condition, that were getting in the way in the house. Within hours they started to come in – and we now have plenty of bags again! Thank you so much to all of you who have responded so promptly and helpfully. It is really good to know that if we run short again, as we have to do is ask!
We are very reliant on plastic bags in the foodbank. We would love to have a more sustainable alternative to plastic…..but can not think of anything. We use the “bags for life” when we have them, and the robust paper bags from Morrisons….but we still have to use some plastic. Many people take their shopping home on the bus, and so it needs to be a bag – using cardboard boxes would just not be practical. We can ask people to bring in their own bags – and many are already coming with their own bags – but there will always be some people who arrive without them. If anyone has a great idea that we have not thought about, please let us know.
