Keep the Lifeline…..

10th September 2021

Have you heard of #UniversalCredit? It’s a social security payment for people who don’t have enough money for the essentials – often because they’re in low-paid work or can’t work because of a health issue or caring responsibilities. These payments can be a lifeline, but this October the UK government is planning to cut these payments by £20 a week.

1.2 million people fear they could be forced to skip meals if this cut goes ahead. Last year (April 2020-March 2021) we in Abergavenny Foodbank gave out a staggering 847 parcels & we’re concerned this will increase again.

But it doesn’t have to be like this. The government can choose to #KeepTheLifeline. Share this post if you agree our social security system should be able to help people afford the essentials in life, & find out more about how you can get involved here > www.trusselltrust.org/keepthelifeline
